- a signal on a bugle, drum, etc. at some fixed time early in the morning to waken soldiers or sailors or call them to first assembly
- the first assembly of the day
Etymology: < Fr réveillez(-vous), imper. of (se) réveiller, to wake up < ré- (< L re-) + veiller (< L vigilare, to watch: see vigilant)
