I realize usage over time can change the definition of a word, but I have to disagree on your definition of the word "monies." Traditionally, it has been limited to plural references to the various world currencies and not to funds within the same currency of a given country. I have to object when popular usage changes can be confusing, especially nowadays when writing about federal stimulus funds. US federal dollars are US federal dollars regardless of the program through which they are distributed.
