- The amicable resolution of a dispute.
- A method of alternative dispute resolution whereby a third party, who is usually but not necessarily neutral, meets with the parties and assists them to find a way to settle their dispute. See also arbitration, mediation, and summary proceeding.
- In family law, an attempt by a third party to assist a couple to settle their differences and stay together. See also mediation.
