Routing Information Protocol

Routing Information Protocol definition - hacker
An interior gateway protocol specifying how routers exchange information about routing tables. Routers exchange entire tables periodically when they are using RIP. Because this is a rather inefficient process, RIP is currently replaced by the newer Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) protocol.
