raider

raider definition - finance
An individual or corporation that plans to take control of a company and fire management. A raider buys shares to obtain a controlling interest in the target company. The term was frequently heard in the late 1980s, but its usage has dropped off. To alert companies of potential raiders, anyone who holds 5 percent or more of the outstanding shares in a company must report this fact to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
