non-governmental organization definition - finance
A term commonly used by developmental organizations such as the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to refer to organizations that lobby and otherwise attempt to influence policies enacted by the World Bank and IMF, along with governments. NGOs typically have a particular purpose, focused on a social agenda that may include ethical, cultural, political, scientific, environmental, religious, or philanthropic considerations.
