gather in the stops definition - finance
A trading technique, particularly used in the futures market or stock market, that involves selling a sufficient amount of futures or stocks in order to drive prices down to a level where sell or buy stops (tradersÂ’ orders to purchase or sell stocks at a specific level) are thought to be. Once the stops are activated, then the market will trade higher or lower.
