- like or characteristic of conditions near the earth's equator equatorial heat
- designating or of a telescope mounted in such a way as to have two axes of motion, one (called polar axis) parallel to the earth's axis, the other (called declination axis) perpendicular to it: by rotation about the polar axis it can follow the apparent motion of a celestial body
