syndicate 1
A consortium of individuals or companies formed to pursue a particular business venture that syndicate members would find difficult to undertake individually. For example, investment banking firms form underwriting syndicates to bid on new security issues that are to be resold to individual and institutional investors. The underwriting syndicate disbands when the security offering has been completed. Also called underwriting syndicate. See also selling group.
