hidden tax

hidden tax definition - business

hidden tax

A tax that is difficult for taxpayers to detect. For example, the price paid by consumers for alcoholic beverages includes a substantial hidden tax. A hidden tax often creates little public criticism because many taxpayers do not realize the extent to which they are being taxed. Also called stealth tax.
